Kids and smart phones

Well, we all know that technology is advancing every second of everyday, but seriously... 9 year old's with better smart phones than me? Wow. Basically I work part time in a Starbucks store and I come across people from all walks of life working there, don't get me wrong I LOVE it. The diversity in the people I meet at work does humour me a hell of a lot, but I have to admit seeing a girl no older than 9 bragging about her new Iphone 5c has to be one of the best. She was talking about how her mum had bought her this new phone and she could access her Facebook and Twitter profile on it all the time, yes you did read that correctly... She's 9 and has Facebook! WHAT?? People today definitely underestimate the power of social media. I mean seriously what 9 year old would possibly need to be networking on Facebook? Obviously quite a few of them by the sounds of it! In reality I genuinely believe that some parents today have no idea how dangerous social media can be for young children, and they have no idea what their children are doing online in the 21st century world. Photos or "selfies" as they are known as today (the word selfie has actually made it into the Oxford dictionary, bizarre right?) can almost be accessed by anyone, anywhere online. I mean, would you want people having pictures of your 9 year old little girl on their computers? I certainly know I wouldn't. I can't say i don't love a good selfie because let's face it... we all love a good pose now and again. But for children as young as 9 who haven't even developed full reading and writing skills yet to be pouting and posing in mirrors surely isn't good. Well it could just be me being old fashioned but hey, I think it's rather shocking how advanced children are in using smart phones but if you ask them to pick up a book they look at you like you're an alien. But maybe that's just the modern day society for you ey!
